What do you think of winter?

Do you dislike winter, are you dreading the season ahead? Emma over at silverpebble has hated winter for years...

Me, well I love it! For ages I've been trying to get Emma to learn to love winter, to embrace winter wholeheartedly. So far, I have failed dismally...

I see sparkling, glistening trees, Emma sees cold feet and runny noses...

Then, late this summer, we came up with a cunning plan...a plan that would change Emma's view of winter forever (& be good fun at the same time!)

The idea is that we shall immerse ourselves fully in Making Winter. We shall try out lots of winter related crafts (as thrifty as possible from my perspective) & aim to showcase all the wonderful things that winter has to offer. And Emma, well, she just has to be persuaded to love winter!

The Mystery of this strange collection will all be revealed when Emma hosts the first tutorial on Sunday 30th October.

The worm juice was a present & not part of the activities...(thankfully!)
We chose this day as it is when the UK wakes up in GMT, having changed the clocks back an hour during the night. (Suddenly, getting dark by 5pm is a real shock to the system!)

In our Making Winter project, there will be;

  • tutorials (We are hoping to run joint tutorials every month until the weather warms up)
  • lots of blog hops
  • a flickr pool, sharing images guaranteed to cheer up the most hardened of winter-haters
  • mosaics of beautiful images
  • a huge giveaway in January (date to be confirmed)

Maybe you need to be convinced about the wonders of winter, or maybe you can help me persuade Emma how amazing winter can be.
(Maybe you're basking in sunshine on the other side of the world & need a bit of cooling down...)

Either way, please cut & paste the button to your side bar, add a link & join us in our dual project,

Making Winter

I love this, I always dread the onset of winter, but as I read your list of things you are looking forward to, I realise I actually love all these things too. I think I am just conditioned to loathe winter...because everyone else does! I can't wait to join in on this... thank you! LOu x

The only good thing about winter, as far as I'm concerned is that the next season is Spring! I'll look forward to your tutorials and will definitely join in as much as I can :)

I'm popping over from Silverpebble to say I am in. I have always been in love with the poetry and cosiness of winter. Infact having just made up an autumnal rabbit in jewel-like colours I was busy in my head dreaming up a winter bunny in soft greys and muted blues with a touch of silver.

I cannot wait!

I love winter, but miss it greatly now we live in Australia (our winter is more like a British summer here). So am looking forward to seeing you celebrate it.

I am with Emma and have always endured winter and been desperate for spring. This year I have found myself surprisingly ready for autumn. I think this is just exhaustion in the garden to be Frank. But I am up for looking at winter afresh. I have even just blogged about my autumn projects so I am maybe halfway there!

I adore winter ... especially when it snows! Morning frosts, long walks in unclothed woods, nights by the fire knitting ... what's not to like !!

I've just arrived from Silver Pebble and I would love to join in. I'm with Emma, hating darkness and mud and cold wind and there's a lot of it about in my bit of North Norfolk! I started a hopefully similarly uplifting thing on my blog last week, 'Reasons to be Cheerful' and it would be lovely if you could participate. Between us all we should be able to dispell some winter blues!

Count me in :-)

Looking forward to sharing some Winter Making ideas.

Everyone seems to have arrived here after reading Silver Pebble, I am the other way around so perhaps I attack my reader from the other end...

I am not keen on winter all the time, just some of it, particularly when the snow arrives but after a week of so of not being able to get off my drive I become resentful. If we have very little snow I like it better.

I shall watch both blogs, (and Penny's) so that you can lift me out of the SAD that I invariably get. Thanking you in advance...

Not a real winter lover here I am afraid :-( I miss the long days of summer and hate the dark mornings - it makes me feel all grumpy and want to sleep through it all :-) Will be watching what you all create and hopefully join in. I am at work on Sunday when the clocks go back - but will have a nose on Monday.

Um. I don't know if my first comment was received: I got a strange error message from the form. Anyway, I'm in! And I was going to suggest opening a Ravelry group as a way of having somewhere that everyone can use to chat and post pics - but then I realised that I have no idea whether you're on Ravelry or not!

BTW, as far as the blog-universe goes, you and I are neighbours!

I am hoping to be converted, but my nose and feet are cold already . . .

Have a lovely holiday, too - where on earth could you be going?!

Hi,
I am a yarn lover so winter has definite charms for me. I will be playing along: I hope to be able to share some simple patterns for crochet items that will make you dread the spring when they have to go back in the drawer!
Great idea

Hello! Found you via Pomona's blog. I do like winter ... for a time (it gives me a chance to wear some of the scarves I've been crocheting all year, and to give away the rest as gifts). But where I live winter tends to drag on into March and even April, which I don't like at ALL. Do you have enough projects to last that long? I look forward to finding out.

I'm such a fan of autumn and winter - definitely my most favourite times of year.

I'm really looking forward to joining you in persuading Emma of the merits of colder weather - and getting some tips on how to persuade my own winter-hating family of the benefits too.
