To List (or not to List)

I often think that the world is split into two distinct camps; those who write lists & those who know they should but fight the urge.

My Mum & sister are both proficient (& prolific) list-writers; so I naturally, fight the urge. I used to claim that I could keep all the relevant information in my head but I can't.

Mr TH has converted me to the joys sense of writing lists. I will now admit that it is much easier to just write things down. (I've also discovered that 'writing a list' provides an excellent excuse to sit down with a cuppa).

The best & thriftiest reason to write a list has to be the ongoing, everlasting shopping list stuck to the side of the fridge. The unspoken rule is that whoever uses the last of something is responsible for adding it to the list. It works for us & makes a trip to the supermarket less frequent, much quicker & significantly cheaper...

I agree about the great excuse for a cuppa! We tried the shopping list on the fridge idea, but ended up forgetting it when we went out, which seemed rather a waste...!

Yeah, I have one of those everlasting shopping lists too, but hubby has a bad habit of writing something else on it and then removing my bit of paper. Aaaargh.

I'd never manage without writing a list and even though I do sometimes forget to take it with me as Rachael says the fact that I have actually written it helps me to remember what it was I needed. I am definitely a list maker.

I always have a cuppa when I'm list making too! I'm a bit of a list maniac to be honest, lists everywhere!

I think I will pinch that fridge list idea from you. There is nothing worse being one ingredient short just as you start to cook is there?

I used to get along fine without lists, but the older I get, the more helpful I find them. Plus there's the satisfaction of checking things off. (One of my favourite Frog and Toad stories deals with this topic.)

I like the idea of list-making being an excuse for a cuppa!

I am addicted to lists. I have different lists for different things - daily tasks/errands, crafting projects, long term "this we need to do on the house". Partly because I'm scatter brained partly because I am a control freak. Anything that saves money on the weekly shop is good in my book.

I make countless lists! But today I was quite cross as although I'd done loads none of it was on my list so I couldn't cross anything off!

I have a blackboard in my kitchen which we use to write on like your fridge list - it really works well.

I never shop without a list but my husband has lists of lists. We have a whiteboard in the kitchen and whoever notices we are short of something has to put it on the board. Living well away from shops it is an absolute necessity to be organised and I rather like the rhythm of it somehow!

I write shopping lists...then forget to take them !!! I love finding shopping lists in shopping baskets with spidery hand writing from elderly customers !
I chant things like, "must remember toothpaste, must remember toothpaste" and promptly forget !
